Roquetas is set on flat terrain, fairly good paving and low-rise apartments make Roquetas de Mar ideal for families with younger children, and mature holidaymakers.

Many of the Roquetas de mar apartment complexes have been designed for the less mobile.

The town has used traditional Spanish architecture as its blueprint, creating an artificial, yet quaint village atmosphere.

There are villas scattered along the sea front, alongside some of the hotels and bars. A wide pedestrian promenade offers pleasant strolls along the beach.

The tourist area is clean and well presented with no areas for the typical lager lout tourist of the costa del sol.

A mix of sand and pebble with rows sun beds and parasols - such a large expanse it rarely appears crowded and there are plenty of beach side resturants to choose from with traditional spanish and also international food. Watersports are available in the summer months if conditions favour them.

Golfers are in luck - there's an 18 hole course right on the doorstep and 2 others just 15 minutes further afield.

Granada offers guided tours of the Alhambra Palace as well as good shopping opportunities and movie lovers will enjoy a trip to Tabernas where some of the famous spaghetti westerns were filmed.

Shoppers have the new Gran plaza shopping center right on the edge of Roquetas plus cinema and food court.

Plenty of quiet bars and a good selection of restaurants catering for all tastes ranging from quick snacks to local specialties.

There's plenty of space on the beach for children to runabout although the sea conditions must be watched at times.

A funpark has some tame attractions for the younger ones.
